Nacido en 1977 en la Ciudad de México, Eugenio Polgovsky ha dedicado su obra cinematográfica y audiovisual a los habitantes del México rural, y a el estudio de las fronteras entre la naturaleza y el mundo urbano. Estudió dirección y cinefotografía en el Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica de la Cd. de México. Su películas Trópico de Cáncer, Los herederos y Resurrección han sido reconocidas en los festivales más prestigiosos del mundo; sus filmes destacan por su original lenguaje poético y profundamente humanista. Actualmente ha sido distinguido como Compañero de la Artes (Fellow) del legendario Trinity College de la Universidad de Cambridge, Inglaterra. Ha recibido 4 premios "Ariel", el Premio Nacional de la Juventud de México, además de numerosos premios alrededor del mundo y ser parte del programa Hubert Bals para producción de cine del Festival de cine de Rotterdam. El diario Le Monde lo calificó como "Un mago del cine" y el MOMA de Nueva York proyecto en 2010 Trópico de Cáncer entre las películas vanguardistas de la historia del cine latinoamericano de siglo XXI.
Actualmente trabaja entre proyectos de cine documental, instalación y fotografía, como la pieza Laberinto de Luz realizada en el laboratorio Cavendish de Cambridge con los instrumentos originales de James K. Maxwell, uno de los gigantes de la física, quién utilizó hace 150 años un zootropo para el estudio de la luz y los colores, cuando las imágenes en movimiento estaban naciendo.
Born in 1977 in Mexico City, Eugenio Polgovsky has dedicated his film and audiovisual work to the inhabitants of rural Mexico, and to the analysis of the borders between nature and the urban world. He studied direction and cinematic photography at Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in Mexico City. His films Trópico de Cáncer (Tropic of Cancer), Los herederos (The Heirs) and Resurrección (Resurrection) had been awarded at the most prestigious festivals of the world; his films outstand for having a creative poetic language and for being strongly humanistic. He has been recently awarded by the legendary Trinity College of the University of Cambridge, in England, as Fellow of the Arts. Has received the Ariel Prize on four occasions, the Premio Nacional de la Juventud (National Prize of the Youth, Mexico); apart from a number of awards all over the world, he has been recognized for being part of the Hubert Bals program for film production from the Rotterdam Film Festival. The journal Le Monde described him as “A wizard of filmmaking”; the MOMA screened Tropic of Cancer in New York in 2010 as part of the XXIst century’s most avant-garde films in the history of Latin American cinema.
He currently works in different projects of documentary cinema, installation and photography, such as the piece Lightbyrinth, made at the Cavendish laboratory of Cambridge with the original James K. Maxwell’s instruments. Maxwell was one of the titans of physics who used a zoetrope 150 years ago to study light and color, just in the beginning of the moving image era.
