El Arcoíris Global es una instalación de arte público con luz, de gran formato, creada por Yvette Mattern.
La pieza emite siete rayos de luz láser representando el espectro de color de un arcoíris natural: Rojo, naranja, amarillo, verde, azul, índigo y violeta.
La proyección de luz láser de más de 120 watts, irradiando en líneas horizontales paralelas, crea un arco natural en la perspectiva del horizonte, simulando el arco natural de un arcoíris, y tiene una trayectoria o espectro de visión de hasta 60 kilómetros, dependiendo de las condiciones atmosféricas.
La presentación es poética, mágica y poderosa. Incorpora el paisaje urbano y la perspectiva de visión que ofrece es efímera, al igual que cuando se observa un arcoíris de verdad. A nivel teórico y simbólico, la obra incluye la diversidad geográfica y social a través de su alcance de los distintos puntos del globo.
El Arcoíris Global se inspiró en el avistamiento del espectacular arcoíris del primero de enero de 2007:
“Fui testigo del arcoíris más sorprendentemente dramático y espectacular irrumpiendo de entre lo que parecían ser nubes apocalípticas suspendidas sobre un estanque de Massachusetts (Walden Pond), el primer día del año 2007. Me sentí profundamente conmovida e inspirada a replicar la visión de una forma artística. Me impactó el significado simbólico de la posición del arcoíris sobre el estanque y pensé sobre su relación con alguien como Henry David Thoreau.”
The Global Rainbow is a large-scale public art light installation created by Yvette Mattern.
The artwork beams seven rays of laser light representing the color spectrum of a natural rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.
The 120+ W power laser light projection beaming in parallel horizontal lines creates a natural perspective horizon arc simulating a natural rainbow arc and has a trajectory or viewing spectrum of up to 60 KM depending on atmospheric conditions.
The presentation is poetic, magical and powerful. It encompasses the skyline and its viewing perspective is as ephemeral as viewing a natural rainbow. Theoretically and symbolically its presentation encompasses geographical and social diversity in its reach throughout distinct points across the globe.
The Global Rainbow was inspired with the sighting of a spectacular rainbow on January 1, 2007:
“I witnessed the most strikingly dramatic and spectacular rainbow crashing through what seemed like apocalyptic clouds hovering over Walden Pond, Massachusetts on the first day of 2007. I was deeply moved and inspired to replicate this vision artistically. I was struck by the symbolic significance of the placement of the rainbow over Walden Pond and thought about its relationship to someone like Henry David Thoreau."

Yvette Mattern (nacida en San Juan, Puerto Rico) es una artista visual afincada en Nueva York y Berlín, cuyo trabajo tiene un énfasis en el video y el cine, que con frecuencia se cruza con la representación, el arte público y la escultura. Su trabajo se ha exhibido internacionalmente.
Sus esculturas de video y de luz se han exhibido internacionalmente en lugares y eventos como el Baltic Center for Contemporary Art; Gateshead, en el Reino Unido; el Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, en Atlanta; G, Black Light/White Noise; el Houston Contemporary Museum of Art, con Valerie Cassel Oliver como curadora; Equatorial Rhythms; el Museo Sternersen de Oslo, Noruega; You won’t feel a thing; WYSPA Institute of Art; en Polonia, entre otros lugares. Ha aparecido en publicaciones como Cinema Remixed and Reloaded: Black Women Artists and the Moving Image since 1970.
Yvette Mattern (born San Juan, Puerto Rico) is a New York and Berlin based visual artist whose work has an emphasis on video and film, which frequently intersects performance, public art and sculpture. Her work has been exhibited internationally.
