Rituales de luz
(A los migrantes en su camino)
Con, para y por el movimiento, el hombre sigue iluminando su camino con sus creencias y costumbres. Los vehículos que los mueven así como las ruedas que los empujan y hasta los atropellan quedan marcadas por sus historias y sus símbolos. A pesar de la tecnología y la velocidad, sus huellas ancestrales, siguen dando fé de la luz que encienden ahí donde se encuentren.
It is through motion, for it and by it, that men continue lighting their way with their beliefs and traditions.
The vehicles they move around in, as well as the wheels that propel them –and even run over them- remain branded by their stories and symbols.
In spite of technology and speed, their ancient footprints continue witnessing the light they light up wherever they are.
Betsabeé Romero, artista plástica. Vive y trabaja en la Ciudad de México. Desde hace más de 15 años su trabajo se ha especializado en la elaboración de un discurso crítico acerca de temas como migración, mestizaje y movilidad, a través de la resemantización de símbolos y ritos cotidianos de la cultura del consumo global, como automóviles, tatuajes, señalética urbana, etc.
De la misma manera, se ha interesado en abordar la problemática del arte público y el arte popular, su permanencia y relación con el tejido social y con público alternativos al arte contemporáneo.
Betsabeé Romero, plastic artist. Lives and works in Mexico City. For more than 15 years her work has focused on the creation of a critical statement around topics like immigration, cultural mix and mobility, through the resemanticization of symbols and everyday rites from the culture of global consumerism, like cars, tattoos, urban signage, etc.
Likewise, she’s been interested in addressing the issue of public and popular art, their permanence and their connection to the social fabric and to audiences that are an alternative to contemporary art.
