En México, comer en la calle es parte de la cultura desde hace ya bastantes años. Es posible encontrar gente vendiendo alimentos de cualquier tipo, tanto nacionales como internacionales; desde tamales hasta hotdogs.
Inspirada por su gran colorido, tradición y dinamismo, realicé “Antojos Nómadas”, un pequeño tributo animado a todos esos carritos de comida que pasean por México alimentando y haciendo felices a miles de ciudadanos.
In Mexico, eating on the street has been part of the culture since many years ago. You can find people selling food of all kinds, both national and international, from tamales to hot dogs.
Inspired by their color, tradition and dynamism I created Nomadic Cravings, as a small animated tribute to all those food trolleys that stroll around Mexico, feeding and making thousands of citizens happy.

Desde hace cientos de años el pan dulce ha formado una parte importante de la gastronomía Mexicana. Los hay de todas formas, texturas, colores y tamaños. Desde las conchas hasta las oreja, estas delicias caen en un lluvia infinita. Y es que, ¿qué podría ser mejor que estos sabrosos panecillos cayendo del cielo?
For hundreds of years, sweet bread has been an essential element in Mexican gastronomy. Bread comes in all shapes, textures, colors and sizes. From the so called “conchas (shells)” all the way down to the “orejas (ears)”*, these delicacies rain endlessly. What else could possibly be better than these tasty biscuits falling from the sky?
*TRANSLATOR’S NOTE: Most sweet breads in Mexico get their name after an object they allegedly ressemble.

Alegoría de la serpiente emplumada. Quetzalcóatl es un dios en distintas culturas mesoamericanas, como la azteca, la tolteca y la maya, por esto se le han atribuido varios significados. Se les asocia con la sabiduría, las ciencias y las artes, como la agricultura y con la estrella de la mañana.
Este personaje es representado en estas culturas como una serpiente emplumada, sin embargo cada cultura tiene su propia interpretación. En esta obra, se alude a la imagen de Quetzalcóatl que se encuentra en Teotihuacán. Se le observa con un colorido plumaje viajando por los cielos.
Allegory to the feathered snake. Quetzalcoatl is a deity in different Mesoamerican cultures -like the Aztec, the Toltec and the Mayan-, that is why it has been given so many meanings. It is associated to wisdom, science, arts, agriculture and to the morning star.
These cultures depict this character as a feathered snake, however each culture gives its own interpretation to it. This piece makes reference to the avatar of Quetzalcoatl located in Teotihuacan. It is depicted with colorful plumage as he traverses the skies.
Yasmín Islas (Madrid, 1994) es una animadora e ilustradora mexicana. Vive en la Ciudad de México y actualmente cursa el último trimestre de la carrera animación digital. En los proyectos en los que trabaja, generalmente se enfoca en la dirección de arte. Su obra está muy influenciada por la cultura mexicana, principalmente sus colores y texturas.
Yasmín Islas (Madrid, 1994) is a Mexican animator and illustrator. Based in Mexico City, she’s currently studying the last quarter of her BA in digital animation. In the projects she collaborates, she’s generally in charge of the art direction. Her work is greatly influenced by the Mexican culture, mainly by its colors and textures.
